Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the device Monday at the company’s annual developer conference in San Francisco. Even though many of the new phone’s features had leaked to the masses beforehand, anticipation among users, analysts and critics ran high. Among the most important features of the phone are multitasking and a new video-chat tool. But the new iPhone 4 is just one of several announcements Apple hopes will further distinguish the world’s most valuable technology company from rivals such as Google.

Here are 10 new features that could make the iPhone 4 a sought-after device.

1. The iPhone 4 has both a glass front and back with Apple claiming that the glass is more resistant to wear and tear than plastic.

2. The volume buttons on the right have been separated with a silent mode switch incorporated above them.
3. There is a new slot for a secondary microphone next to the headphone jack at the top, which will aid in noise suppression.

4. A 5 MP camera and a LED flash are new features at the back. The camera allows consumers to shoot 720p HD video, which can be edited using the iMovie iPhone app.

5. The iPhone 4 will have Apple's FaceTime, which is a video calling service that enables iPhone 4 users to see each other when they talk.

6. The new iPhone 4 has Apple-designed A4 chip, which offers power management features that enable 7 hours of talktime on 3G devices.

7. Making a smashing debut on the iPhone 4 is the iOS 4, which was previously known as iPhone OS 4. Consumers will be able to have multiple Microsoft Exchange accounts with the iOS 4 and will also be able to run third-party apps in the background seamlessly.

8. The iBooks app can be downloaded onto the iPhone and will allow consumers to store pdf files as well. Another app that is new to iPhone 4 is the iMovie, which is a movie-editing app that looks to be the best out there.

9. The Mail app has been upgraded and now has an unified inbox that allows consumers access to all e-mail accounts in one go.

10. AT&T continue to hold all keys to the iPhone and the new devise will retail at $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model.

The iPhone 4 will hit the markets on June 24, but consumers can pre-order their device on June 15 onward.
